24 Hour Animation Competition
(October 2021)
The 24 Hour Animation Competition is an annual contest open to students all across the globe. Teams of Five are tasked to create a 30 second animated film with in the strict span of 24 hours. Given our love for Stop Motion, my friends and I assembled a team to create a tactile short film filled with fun textures and colorful textiles. Our team had consisted of myself, Rei Snyder, Vanessa Garcia Milian, Samantha Reyes, and Stephanie Robles
I had been primarily tasked within our puppet department and figuring out different mechanics of how our character (Gloob) would function. As a means of expanding the variation of emotion, I had come up with a form of facial replacements made out of large water bottle caps, magnets and clay. Additionally as our puppet became too top heavy, I suggested we used a thin string to prop him up much like a marionette puppet that slides on top of the set.
Puppet Department
Within our puppet department Rei and myself collaborated with the overall character design and enjoyed bouncing ideas off one another. Additionally communication amongst our other friends had been been key to organizing the overall production and being able to complete with in the competitions time restrictions.
Fun Times!

The competition had been a wonderful experience that exercised the importance of teamwork, communication, and strong work ethic. It was incredibly inspiring to be surrounded with people passionate about creating our short and being able to breath life into what would otherwise be inanimate. We had a great time testing out new materials and experimenting with different fabrication processes.
